Salut ! Guaka 16:48, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I ni sokoma Guaka !
Question : Pour quel ONG travailles-tu à Bamako (suppositions).
Ka an bé !

Logo, npov...[soppi gongikuwaay bi]

Salut Yannick,

I just created the logo for the Wolof Wikipedia: .

However seeing what was on the mainpage I also must inform you: all Wikipedias must conform to a Neutral Point of View policy, or NPOV, which means they can only express absolute fact and not opinion.

This means that it is OK to say "Senegal is a country in Africa" but NOT "Open source movement is essential to future of African peoples".

Also, the "Main Page" should be not about ANAFA but about Wikipedia. I have moved this content about ANAFA to its own article, ANAFA.

In addition I see your invitation to everybody to add open-source documentation in any African language to this Wikipedia right now. This is also unacceptable. This space is only for an encyclopedia, and only in Wolof. There should be articles on countries, famous people, cities, planets, oceans, cultures, languages, and the like, but there should NOT be articles filled with documentation for open-source softwares. Also, it should all only be in Wolof. That means it is NOT ok to post content in Fulfulde/Pulaar or Mandinke to this Wikipedia.

I hope that you are still willing to contribute here even after this because a good, open-source encyclopedia in Wolof will definitely be integral in the advancement of Wolof speakers everywhere.

Hello Node,
Thanks a lot for the job !
I agree with you. That is true: Wikipedia, like any encyclopaedia, should be neutral as possible in its content. I understand what an encyclopaedic article is, don’t worry, and soon (after our public call), the main page will be changed to a more classic concept – and probably in Wolof language exclusively. But the Wo.Wikipedia Main page is actually an attempt to create a Wolof community on the net and a call to the other NGOs who share the same goal and who might want to contribute. The call to other Africans of other languages is to do the same thing: create a Wikipedia and Wikibook, etc. in their own language.
And I don’t think we should be ashamed of what we are when we mention – and when we promote a bit too – the free software and its utilities. This is exactly what Wikipedia represents also: a free software in a "free" community! It is the same philosophy and in the same movement. And I think that the Main Page could serve like a "preface" to the rest of the work.
Imagine the preface of the first Encyclopaedia: you easily can imagine d’Alembert and Diderot wrote something (not "neutral") about the incredible invention of the Guttenberg Press and how that could change what we are, our future and also our liberty. We did the same thing with this "mise en contexte".
I don’t want to be falsely "revolutionary", but Internet in general; free software and Wikipedia in particular are what they are: a sort of "revolution" and perhaps – in our case – the first real opportunity to exist somewhere! Somewhere alongside Fulfulde but also alongside French, Arabic and English too! Never does the Wolof language or any other "discriminated" language get this occasion. I don’t think it’s necessarily appropriate to be "encyclopaedically neutral" in the Main Page of one of the best "free" pages!
Thanks a lot and I’m waiting for the restitution of our Main Page. [Because – if I did a good reading of Wikipedia documents and policies – you have to discuss with the wiki community before making those kinds of changes (Main page, etc).] ;-)
Ciao !

Since you are new, I hesitated in making you a sysop. Obviously, you know very little of Wikipedia concept. So that everything get started, I make you a sysop for three weeks. Anthere
