FaramfacceAdansonia digitata-seeds and fruit pulp detail.jpg
English: Detail of baobab fruit pulp and seeds from the West Africa indigenous Adansonia digitata baobab tree. Unusually, the mature, edible fruit pulp of this baobab is very dry and lightweight, separates into chunks and easily crumbles into a powder, but when wet, dissolves easily to expose many brown seeds. Shown (left) the pale, whitish mature fruit pulp, then (center) the wet clumps of partially exposed seeds and fibers, and (right) the completely rinsed brown seeds which measure about 1.2 cm in length. The seeds are brown, any visible white patches are residual fruit pulp. The dissolved in water dry fruit pulp from rinsing and sieving to separate it from the seeds and fibers is how 'baobab juice' is produced. (Scale - shown with a 30 cm ruler)
